Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the western political education system, focusing on the United States and England. The finding are as follows;
Political education has adapted to other perceived needs of state and society in terms of nation-building, democratic citizenship, and social development. The objectives of political education are to develop democratic knowledge, skills, attitudes and values which will enable students to be good citizens.
Public schools are the only system of political education which is the subject of social studies. The curriculum of political education basically emphasizs the democratic virtues and beliefs such as justice, equality, responsibility, obligation, freedom, plurality, privacy, participation, popular consensus, patriotism, human rights and so on
The teaching methods based on civic action approach are designed to enhance capabilities of participation in election, civic action, citizen involvement, obligatory and social activities.
In conclusion, political education will hold a place of prominence in the school curriculum as long as the educational objectives are defined by the wills of nation-state and citizens.
