Abstract
"Clothing Behavior-Attitudes and Self-Concept of Collage Women"
The present study was designed to investigate the relationship between clothing behavior-attitudes and self concepts of collage women.
Two instruments were selected to measure the variables under investigation. These instruments were administered to 100 women student at Inha University during the period of June 7 to 24, 1977.
The test were scored and then analyzed statistically at the IHU computer Center, using the Pearson Product-moment method of correlation.
* the relationship between total clothing behavior-attitudes and self-concept.
Results showed that total clothing behavior-attitude was significantly related to self-identity at the 1 percent level of confidence, family-self at the 5 percent level of confidence and total positive self at the 5 percent level of confidence.
Those students with higher levels of self-esteem and of adequacy. worth and value as a family member were interested in clothing behavior and attitudes. Total clothing behavior attitude self at the 10 percent level of confidence.
* The relationship between clothing behavior-attitudes variables and self concepts.
· Economic aspects of clothing behavior-attitudes correlated positively with the moral-ethical self, personal self, family self and self behavior.
(a) Self-defensive group was negatively related to the economic aspects of their clothing. It reveals that self-defensive collage women in self-criticism do not consider economic condition of their clothing.
(b) The higher group in moral-ethical self score was positively related to the economy of their clothing behavior-attitudes. This reveals that collage women in high standard of morality think over economic conditions of their clothing.
· Conformity in clothing behavior-attitudes correlated positively with total variability. Those students lack in consistency of self-concepts were concerned with conformity of clothing.
(a) Women students who are unsociable and alienate were concerned about the conformity in dress with their companion.
(b) The higher score group in physical self and lower score group in moral-ethical self had no concern with conformity of their clothing behavior-attitudes, while the low group in physical self score revealed their tendency to conform in dress with their companion.
· Fashion in clothing behavior-attitudes correlated positively with self-identity and social self.
(a) The correlation coefficients indicated that those students with higher levels of self satisfaction and personal self were concerned with fashion of clothing and were afraid to draw attention to themselves in their clothing behavior-attitudes.
(b) The lower score group in self satisfaction and self defensive group were unafraid to draw attention to themselves through their use of clothing.
(c) the lower group of physical self score and high group of personal self score were negatively related to aesthetic point of clothing.
(d) The self satisfying students were concerned with dependency of clothing but the self critical group was negatively related to the dependency of clothing.
(e) the correlation coefficients revealed that modesty in clothing behavior-attitudes was more important to self-critical women students than to self-defensive group.
