Abstract
Fe3O4/SiO2 nanocomposite particlesweresynthesizedfromahydrophobicFe3O4 suspension, preparedby precipitating Fe(II)andFe(III)chloridesandusingahydrophobicSiO2 wet gelfromasilicicacidsolution derivedfromasodiumsilicate(waterglass)solution.Fe3O4 nanoparticles havingacrystallitesizeof 10nmembeddedinSiO2 aerogelcanbesuccessfullyfabricatedbymixingtheFe3O4 suspension and silica wetgelin n-hexane.ItwasclearlyobservedthattheFe3O4 nanoparticles werewellcrystallizedand homogeneouslydispersedintheSiO2 aerogel.TheFe3O4/SiO2 nanocomposite particlesexhibited superparamagenticbehavior.Thesaturationmagnetizationwasdeterminedto34.5,18.2,and8.3emu/ g for90wt%Fe3O4, 70wt%Fe3O4, and50wt%Fe3O4/SiO2 nanocomposite particles,respectively.
