Abstract
The locationtemplatematching(LTM)methodisoccasionallyusedintheareaof structuralhealthmonitoringandhuman?computerinterfacesystemwhenthelocation of impactonanobjectisneededtobeidentified.Ingeneral,theLTMmethodutilizesthe cross-correlation(orthecorrelationcoefficient)betweentwotimesignals,andits performanceisinfluencedbymanyfactorssuchasthespatialresolutionofthepre- definedreferencepoints,thefrequencybandwidthofasignalandthelengthofdata,etc. In addition,thecorrelationbasedLTMmethodoftenneedsmanysensorstoimprovethe accuracy ofidentification.Toovercomethesedisadvantages,agroupdelaybasedLTM method(namelyG-LTM)isintroducedinthispaper.Particularly,theproposedmethod usesthegroupdelayofafictitiouslineartime-invariantsystemasameasureof similarity.TheexperimentalresultsverifyahighqualityoftheG-LTMmethodby maintaining100%accuracyforallthedifferentgridspacingwhiletheaccuracyofthe correlationbasedLTMmethoddecreasessignificantlyasthegridspacingbecomes smaller.
