Abstract
In this study, we fabricated 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMIMPF6)/nylon 6,6 composite nanofibers by traditional solution blending technique and subsequent electrospinning method. BMIMPF6 gives electric conductivity to BMIMPF6/nylon 6,6 composite nanofibers. Due to this property, electrospun BMIMPF6/nylon 6,6 nanofiber was utilized as an organic vapour sensing material. The composite nanofibers were electrospun on an interdigitated electrode. After that, the electrode was exposed to the organic vapours such as methanol, ethanol, THF, and acetone. When the BMIMPF6/nylon 6,6 composite nanofiber coated electrode was exposed to organic vapours, the significant electrical resistance change was observed. The resistance change was explained on the basis of BMIMPF6 ionic movement in nylon 6,6 matrix. The fabricated sensor showed good reversible and reproducible responses upon the cyclic tests.
