Abstract
It is commonly believed that traditional spectrum allocation is very inefficient and we need approaches to improving the utilization efficiency of the precious radio spectrum resource. One of the most efficient paradigms is the cognitive radio (CR), which allows intelligent radios to provide unlicensed users with opportunistic accessing the licensed bands without interfering with the existing users. In a CR system, unlicensed users use spectrum sensing (hardware or software based) to sense idle spectrum, select the best available channel, coordinate access to this channel with appropriate power level, and vacate the channel when a licensed user needs that channel. Traditional wireless technologies allocate the radio resources statically, while CRs adapt to the dynamic radio environments and allocate the resources dynamically. Thus, the resource management in CR networks is an important issue and is widely studied by scholars. Analyzing the variations of the environment and developing appropriate resource management algorithms are the main goals of this dissertation. Specifically, the resources include spectrum band, transmission power and time slot in this dissertation; and an admission control scheme is also developed. Based on the deeply researching on the principles of CR networks and other related technologies, following contributions and innovative ideas are achieved: A novel method using bipartite graph matching is proposed to realize the dynamic spectrum access. Based on the famous Kuhn-Munkre algorithm, an idealized method and an operative method are respectively presented. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithms dramatically maximize the spectrum utilization and reduce the allocation conflictions among users.
