The Role of the Logistics Industry in the Korean National Economy: An Input-Output Analysis/
Issue Date
The logistics industry has played an important role in Korean economics, and the Korean logistics industry in the global age is faced with a period claim for transforming it competitively and efficiently. This study, therefore, aims to identify the impact of the logistics industry on the Korean national economy. Hence, this study provides policy-makers with accessible and reliable information regarding the role of the Korean logistics industry. This study employs input-output (I-O) analysis to examine the role of the logistics industry in the national economy for the period 1995-2003, with specific application to Korea. This paper has two major goals: the impact of logistics industry supply investment on individual sectors and products and a preliminary indication of the role of the logistics industry. This study pays particular attention to the logistics industry by taking the industry as exogenous and then investigating its economic impact. Then, we present the results, which address inter-industry linkage effects in 20 sectors, production-inducing effects, added value-inducing effects, supply-shortage effects of the logistics industry, and the pervasive effects of price change on the logistics industry. Therefore, potential uses of the results are illustrated from the perspect
